Tennis Scoring - Deuce

Darren Grunberg serves as an equity trader with T3 Trading Group, where he specializes in fixed income methods and stocks. In his leisure time, Darren Grunberg enjoys playing a number of sports, including tennis.

During a game of tennis, the player who scores four points (15, 30, 40, game point) wins the game outright. There is a special scoring system, however, that comes into play when two players are tied at a score of 40-all. This is called deuce, and it follows its own set of rules to determine who wins the game.

When the score is tied at deuce, a player must score two consecutive points to win the game. Whoever scores the first point is said to have “advantage” until he either scores another point, or loses a point to bring the score back to deuce. Play continues at deuce for as long as it takes for a player to score two points in a row.
