New York Jets Offseason Staff Shakeup
The recipient of a bachelor's degree in accounting from SUNY University at Buffalo, Darren Grunberg draws on more than 20 years of trading experience in his role as equity trader with T3 Trading Group. When he isn't working, Darren Grunberg enjoys following his favorite National Football League (NFL) team, the New York Jets.
The Jets missed the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season in 2017. Personnel changes needed to be made in the offseason, primarily in regard to the team's offense, which ranked 28th in yards and 24th in points scored. The first change was made in mid-January, when the team announced offensive coordinator John Morton would not return in 2018. It was reported that Morton and head coach Todd Bowles had some philosophical differences in coaching, and Morton admitted to throwing in the towel during the Jets' Week 14 loss to the Denver Broncos. The Jets have yet to name a replacement for Morton, but it has been speculated that quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates may be promoted to fill the role.
Further changes came on Jan. 24, 2018, as the Jets relieved offensive line coach Steve Marshall of his duties. A former assistant offensive line coach with the Green Bay Packers, Marshall joined the Jets in 2015 and spent three seasons with the team. The Jets' offensive line did the team no favors, giving up 47 quarterback sacks, tied for seventh-most in the NFL.
